Getting Creative with Joe Palacios
Here at The Street Art Loft, we are always happy and proud to work hand in hand with amazing creatives of all mediums. With this being our first blog post, we wanted to give our audience a chance to get to know a little more about our talented team, so we've put together some basic design questions to get things going.....
Over the past couple years, we've had the pleasure of working with photographer and filmmaker Joe Palacios. Joe has been instrumental in both media productions and promotional videos for both internal projects and events here at The Street Art Loft as well as with our client base...
What is your film and production background?
I studied media production at Pepperdine University. From there I began to work freelance in the industry. My main focus isin cinematography but I have also worked a lot with audio. On the side, I have also done a lot of videography with various artists and businesses. I love supporting artists and working alongside them to pursue our dreams.
What type of equipment do you prefer to use on most of your photoshoots?
As far as equipment goes, it varies between projects. If it’s a smaller budget project, I just use my mirrorless camera and can rent a steady cam. For higher budgeted projects, I would ideally rent all my equipment. But I believe the best camera is the one you have. It’s all about who’s behind the lens.
When working with a client, how do you come up with your ideas to tell a story?
When working with a client, I try to get an idea of who they are and what they represent as a brand/artist. Then as a director, I decide what kind of emotion I want to be represented in the film. That’s always my goal and that’s what I build my story on. It takes a video to a whole new level from just informational, to something a little more personal in which you can connect with the client.
Where was your favorite place you ever did a shoot? What did you learn from that experience?
My favorite place to shoot was Alesund, Norway. There’s just such a majesty and serenity about that place. There’s also a rich history of art embedded in the culture. It really just taught me to slow down and to be present. My whole perspective on film changed after that trip. And I think it shows.
How can a video improve a business ability to tell a story and sell products?
Going back to what I wrote earlier about how I come up with a story, I believe that that emotional connection is important. If you can relate to a business and catch a glimpse of their world, its easier for people to want to support and be apart of their vision. Film is powerful. Like they say, a picture tells a thousand words.
